Supply Chain Integrity

THE CHALLENGE
Convening was critical to the success of the Laudes Foundation (formerly C & A Foundation) mission, however they found they were exhausting a large part of their financial resources for external consultants to run their convenings. They needed a solution that would introduce this skillset to their own team.

THE SOLUTION
Conveners.org provided training on the importance of experience design and facilitation. Coaching services were centered around their all-hands meeting, reviewing the agenda, and supporting session leads in their design and facilitation planning.

THE IMPACT
The Laudes Foundation leadership team has successfully run their global all-hands team meeting entirely on their own. They are empowered to continue to host and facilitate their organization convenings.

Capacity Building

THE CHALLENGE
Hewlett’s Madison Initiative team needed guidance on designing a convening that would respect the culture and expertise of their Representative Democracy Grantees. They set a goal to build strong relationships and catalyze collaboration among their grantees that address pluralism, political tolerance, negotiation and compromise in our democracy.

THE SOLUTION
The Conveners.org team tailored a multi-day experience for over 100 participants (their entire grantee portfolio) that promoted idea exchange and shared practices. In addition to providing planning and logistics support, the Conveners.org team crafted a unique agenda and lead on-site facilitation.

THE IMPACT
Using this new experience design as a framework, they were able to streamline future events, which continues to make their convenings meaningful and impactful. They now have the capacity to pivot quickly to a virtual forum, following the cancellation of their events during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Capacity Building

THE CHALLENGE
The REDF team was crystal-clear on their mission and impact, but struggled gaining collaboration and consensus across internal silos. They needed new ideas to bridge those divides, and new skills to effectively co-create convenings in-house.

THE SOLUTION
Conveners.org provided a day-long intensive on experience design and facilitation for the REDF team, with a focus on the concrete skills of convening; project management, agenda design, moderation vs. facilitation and hiding time – as well as soft-skills focused on shared value and trust-building. This was followed by 3 months of weekly coaching sessions.

THE IMPACT
The REDF team continues to design and facilitate their own convenings, utilizing many of the techniques, tools and templates they learned from this training.

THE CHALLENGE
The small but mighty team at New Left Accelerator (NLA) was handed a massive opportunity to shape the programming and event engagement for a keystone national conference for their community.

THE SOLUTION
Conveners.org worked hand-in-hand with the NLA team and other conference organizers to break out of the ‘sage-on-a-stage’ box of plenaries and panels, redefining  creative interactions between entrepreneurs and service providers that fostered authentic trust and concrete collaboration.

THE IMPACT
NLA impressed both their national funder and–more importantly–their community with a convening that was truly different. They continue to build on several deep and fruitful collaborations sparked and seeded at that conference.

Idea to Innovation

THE CHALLENGE
Several keystone social-good conveners (Skoll, Obama, Gates and more) found themselves challenged by the question “what would truly be the impact if we stopped convening?” Rather than seeing convening as an end unto itself, they sought a deeper understanding of their impact.

THE SOLUTION
Conveners.org and TCC Group convened an Idea to Innovation collective action project for the group. We designed and facilitated a day-long roundtable focused on definitions, metrics processes, and seeds for collaboration.

THE IMPACT
The work from this group became the foundation for Conveners.org’s Purpose-First Convening framework, a whitepaper published by TCC Group, and an in-depth blog series. These frameworks are now applied far beyond the original participating conveners.

Virtual Convening Certification

THE CHALLENGE
Melvin Consulting works primarily with indigenous activists and support groups across the country. With their community disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, and under-resourced when it comes to connectivity options, virtual convening felt like an almost insurmountable obstacle.

THE SOLUTION
Eileen got exactly what she needed from Conveners.org’s Virtual Convening Certification. She gained a solid foundation on virtual design principles and available tools–and how to apply them effectively. More importantly, she found an ongoing community of peer support and resources.

THE IMPACT
Eileen launched several cohort-based virtual experiences within a month of completing the Virtual Convening Certification. She has had overwhelmingly positive feedback on her events and made concrete progress toward important impact objectives.
