WORLD AFFAIRS COUNCIL: Conversation Starters | How Will Extreme Poverty Be Eliminated?
January 19, 2017 @ 6:30 PM—7:30 PM PST$20
CONVENERS.ORG MEMBER EVENT
Never before have we been this close to eradicating extreme poverty. Economic growth in countries like China, India and Pakistan in the past few decades have lifted millions of people out of dire economic situations. However, with 836 million people in the world still living in extreme poverty, more work is needed. Nicholas Kristof, op-ed columnist for The New York Times, reminds us that there are many reasons for hope. Kristof believes that within the next 15 years we may achieve a milestone that no one ever thought possible: a world where extreme poverty no longer exists.
Calling all leaders, innovators, and change makers: join Jane Wales, the CEO of World Affairs and the Global Philanthropy Forum, in a thought-provoking, solutions-oriented discussion about the steps being taken to end global poverty. Bring your experience, your expertise and your questions to continue the conversation.
This event is the first in a series of Conversation Starters, commemorating the 70th anniversary of World Affairs.
