September 22, 2017Free
On 22 September 2017, in collaboration with the United Nations Office of Partnerships, +SocialGood initiative of the United Nations Foundation, the United Nations Foundation, the United Nations SDG Action Campaign (United Nations Development Programme), International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, EARTHx and EARTHxFilm, we proudly announce the inaugural The People’s Summit+SocialGood: An interactive global exploration on the nexus between global engagement and social good to unlock capacity to achieve a better world.
The People’s Summit+SocialGood will provide a venue for accessible conversations to further amplify global engagement with the Sustainable Development Goals Agenda: a bold universal agenda agreed upon by the world in 2015 to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. The Sustainable Development Goals (“SDGs”), otherwise known as “The Global Goals”, will only be achieved with collective global action.
The People’s Summit +SocialGood Summit is a one-of-a-kind innovative event that brings together global leaders and stakeholders to discuss and find solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges. The People’s Summit+SocialGood provides a space for a truly global conversation to take shape—a place where people and organizations around the world can collaborate, share best practices, influence local and global agendas, and find new ways to translate their vision into action.
The People’s Summit+SocialGood is dedicated to exploring how innovation, community engagement, partnerships, media and technology can enable engagement to catalyze positive impact around the world to support reaching a better world by 2030. Social and digital media are playing increasingly important roles in mobilizing people to aid in advocacy around global development and in response to some of the most critical issues of our time.
The inaugural Summit will be a gathering of social entrepreneurs, innovators, philanthropists, technology developers, NGOs, governments, thought-leaders, and others vested in this space.

+SocialGood unites a global community of innovators around a shared vision: The power of technology and new media to make the world a better place. This is a community of connectors, bringing together ideas and action in our social media era.
The summit will use traditional and novel technology tools to engage participants in online and offline discussions to foster dialogue, deepen understanding and explore bilateral and multilateral publicprivate partnerships to achieve the SDGs. Conversations will focus around: international engagement, socially responsible consumerism, action on the global goals, resource mobilization, the power of media and virtual reality, economic development, education, access to health care and more.
Why The People’s Summit+SocialGood is important? The Summit aims to unlock global human and institutional capacity to ensure that as a world, we reach the targets set forth by the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. The People’s Summit+SocialGood is committed to creating neutral, apolitical and collaborative global conversations that aims to spark collaborations, foster innovation, and promote partnerships that develop far beyond the Summit itself to support implementation of the SDGs. The Summit aims to make SDGs more accessible to people and aims to inspire action among communities towards the SDGs. It also aims to break down industry specific siloes that exist in how we talk about “development.”
Globally, there is a vast lack of knowledge about the SDGs. Many conversations around implementation of development goals, ascribe responsibility and blame onto sectors, industries, governments and instructions; while inspiring efforts of NGOs and civil-society go unnoticed. Many well-intentioned people do not know how to get involved or how to support various global goals. To many people the United Nations and the development sector at large, seem inaccessible and how to make an impact remains difficult to navigate.
Further, most of the world and its most vulnerable populations are left out of public forums and conversations that take place in big cities globally. The online nature of the Summit, helps equalize global voices and inputs, enabling people around the world to not only be content recipients, but content creators.
There are currently many great initiatives happening on the ground in communities around the world, international interest in identifying opportunities to engage, and a wealth of potential for cross- sectoral partnerships has yet to be fully tapped. The Summit conversations and panels aim to inspire social change by fostering collaborate ecosystems around each individual goal and the SDGs collectively. We aim to elevate, harness and empower exiting efforts, by aggregating the conversations online.
The Summit will leverage creative content and campaign to inspire a sense of individual agency and collective responsibility among global communities to support the SDGs. Imagine an international community that is actively engaged in contributing to knowledge transfer, capacity building, supporting innovation and philanthropic giving around the world.
