WORLD AFFAIRS: Diplomat Luncheon: Consul General of France

June 21 @ 11:45 am - 1:15 pm PDT

$25 - $40

With the French presidential elections in the rear-view, it is now up to the victorious President Emmanuel Macron to shape the future of France. His next hurdle is the French Legislative Elections on June 11 and 18, which early polls project his centrist Republic En March! (REM) will gain the most seats despite being barely a year old.

His victory has been considered a triumph for the traditional liberal order in the face of what some have called a global populist backlash. Unlike his far-right opponent, Marine LePen, he has consistently called for an even stronger and more integrated European Union.

What is in store for the future of France? What does Macron’s victory mean for US-French relations, and what will the first meeting of President Trump and Macron on May 25 bring to the table? Will the pair find common ground on counter-terrorism, NATO and cyber-security issues?

France’s Consul General in San Francisco, Emmanuel Lebrun-Damiens, will explore these issues, as well as other important aspects of the relationship over lunch. Lebrun-Damiens has served as the health and humanitarian negotiator for France at the United Nations, as well as at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he helped steer French positions in aid policy development and international health negotiations.
