"Running an accelerator can be lonely, [Accelerating the Accelerators] has created a place for me to connect with other leaders of accelerators. Having a community fosters more innovation for programs and ultimately better outcomes for supporting social enterprises."

AtA COLLECTIVE IMPACT PROJECTS

Collective Impact Projects (CIPs) are working groups focused on a specific topic, for a defined period of time, with the objective of creating a new industry resource, solution, or tool. Through its CIP program, Conveners.org makes collaborating with others easy. Our team manages all of the administrative responsibilities, so that busy organizational leaders can focus on fully engaging in the project.

CIP LEADER

- Commit to attending three conference calls (60-90 minutes each, over 6 months)
- Co-design the agenda for each call
- Help to ensure that participants are fully represented.

CIP PARTICIPANTS

- Attend two to three conference calls over 6 months
- Share their thoughts, insights, and suggestions to advance the community initiative

CURRENT ACCELERATOR CIPs

Conveners.org engaged in conversations with Enable Impact, ImpactSpace, and others to create and host a platform for entrepreneurs to easily identify which accelerator programs are most relevant to them. During Round One of this project Ian Fisk of Mentor Capital Network and Andy Lieberman of the Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship led an initiative to articulate what the core parameters for such a tool should look like. Round Two of this project focused on defining a pathway to decrease the average search time for an accelerator program from 100 hours down to less than 5.

This group is focused on identifying pathways to make entrepreneur cross program referrals easier.

An affinity group for impact-focused mappers to coordinate mapping initiatives designed to better understand the social impact landscape.

CONCLUDED ACCELERATOR CIPs

While accelerator programs are able to support entrepreneurs with addressing organizational challenges such as refining better business models, and team formation, how can they best support entrepreneurs confront system wide challenges? This project led by Seema Patel, examined how entrepreneurs can be cope with systemic barriers and worked to identify ways accelerators can help them.

Thanks to the insights and efforts of this team we created the monthly Cross Promotion Bulletin to effectively reduce the number of requests for help individual program leaders make/receive of each other to promote their respective program opportunities. The next evolution of the Cross Promotion Bulletin will be a page on our website that can be updated in real-time. Thank you to Loïc Comolli of NESsT who led this effort.

Recognizing that existing tools such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIN, F6S do not effectively meet accelerators needs to connect with each other, this group embarked on a process to explore alternative avenues. Under the leadership of CIP host Ryan Ross from Halcyon Incubator, this group decided to launch a monthly 30-minute stand-up call to provide program managers an easy and regular opportunity to update each other.

Accelerator profit margins are slim. This project explored opportunities for programs to source discounts through pooling resources and bulk purchasing. The project culminated with a blog post on “How Can We Make Mentoring Better for Social Entrepreneurs?” by CIP Host C’pher Gresham of Seed Spot.

This group identified resources to provide alumni ongoing support, as well platforms through which to distribute them.

"The Accelerator Stand-up Calls [which are the direct result of a CIP] have evolved into a potent source of community for sharing best practices and collaboration. They illustrates the magic of Conveners.org in creating spaces, combining networks in new ways, and setting the stage for more frequent intersection of folks preforming similar roles in the social impact sector."
